How We Can Help

Finding Insurance in Hamilton after Cancellation or Non Renewal

Cancelled Car Insurance Hamilton Acumen InsuranceAnyone with car insurance may one day find themselves in a situation which their auto insurance company cancels their policy, or their policy is not renewed. It isn’t impossible to obtain car insurance after a policy has been cancelled, but it can be costly. Since car insurance is required in every province, you will be in violation of provincial law if you drive a registered vehicle on public roads without insurance. A cancelled insurance policy isn’t the end of the world, as long as you take the cancellation notice seriously and obtain replacement coverage before the policy expires.

What was the reason for your Cancelled Insurance?

If your car insurance is cancelled by your car insurance company and your policy has been in effect for over 60 days, there are four possible reasons for this:

  • You did not pay your monthly premium on time.
  • Your driver’s license has been revoked or suspended.
  • You have misrepresented yourself on your application.
  • Your insurance company believes you have committed fraud.

If none of these fits your situation, or if it has been less than 60 days since your policy took effect, call your insurance company and find out why you have been cancelled. Once you have this information you can decide what you need to do to get insured again. Rectify the reason for cancellation, if possible. If your policy was cancelled for non payment, then pay the outstanding amount owed to have the policy reinstated. If it was cancelled for underwriting reasons, such as too many moving violations or too many accidents, take a safe-driver class to help reduce the risk. Your auto insurance history follows you and becomes the basis for underwriting your future auto insurance policies.

Our Brokers will work with you to find a way to resolve the cancellation and provide you with options. An Insurance broker acts as your personal advisor on insurance matters.  They work for you, not the insurance company, to make sure your family, and your possessions are properly protected.

What is Hard-to-Insure or High Risk?fast

Usually, insurance companies reject a driver’s application for auto insurance because the driver has bad driving records or too many insurance claims. These bad records are often those of exceeding speed limits or causing motor accidents frequently. Naturally, an insured driver who frequently causes road accidents makes many insurance claims.
